HAPPY MONDAY! So, what’s something magical & simple your trainer has said to you that’s made a big change in your riding? Mine is “step forward.” At first I was like, “Huh? How do I step forward when I’m not walking?” 🤣 But this easy little mantra sticks with me every time I go over a jump and now nine times out of ten my leg stays where it should and helps balance my body and stay out of my horse’s way. I used to lay up the neck a lot but I’m working on getting away from that habit as I get stronger and more balanced in the saddle, and proper weight placement like shifting my heels forward and down as the horse jumps has been such a simple game changer for me.

Oh big man where do I begin? Thank you for giving me the most fun reintroduction to this crazy world. You are the most handsome pony on the planet and I know you’re going to be so happy being the single focus of your new mom who I already know loves & spoils you beyond belief. ✨I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as you’re living my baby you’ll be.✨
As many of you know I’ve had to make the very hard decision to sell Donny. Having five horses long-term was never in the cards, it’s just not feasible in the area we live in. Cam and Tater are so bonded that separating them was not an option - we want to keep them together until they’re old and grey and can be retired together down south near my parents when the time comes. Donny is a very happy, easy going guy. As long as he has turnout, grass/hay and isn’t drilled to death he is content, making it very easy for him to settle in to a new home. Luckily, his new mom is one of my best riding friends from my old barn. She always rode him for me when I was away and knows his personality and likes/dislikes almost as well as I do, which makes this process so much easier for me to manage. Even better, if for any reason at all it doesn’t work out or she can’t keep him (because let’s be honest, sometimes life throws us crazy curve balls) he will come back to live near my parents retirement home down south. He will always be loved and adored, no matter what, but I am so happy that he’s going to be someone’s main focus and continue to be loved as much as I love him. Once he settles in I’ll let everyone know he is doing well and let my friend make the decision if she wants to share updates on him/where he is and what he’s up to. Until then I appreciate you respecting their privacy and not bombarding me with questions about where he’s going and who the new owner is. I always make sure my horses needs come first. They will always take priority, and my heart is full knowing that will continue to be the case for Donny in his new home. ♥️

I realized I hadn’t explained why we decided to move Cam from the 3’6” to the 3’3” AOs (for now) - and I know I don’t owe anyone an explanation and have been a little less detailed on what’s going on with the boys lately - it’s not intentional, life is just extremely busy right now so I’m enjoying the rides and having to focus more of my time and energy towards work and other obligations. Looking forward to things quieting down in July & August for sure! Anyways, I feel so lucky to be able to have two rides in Cam and Tater. Cam is still a little green and at times can make the bigger fences more of a production with his effort while Tater is super comfortable with them. Having one in each division also allows me to put all my focus on just one at that moment in time. I sometimes found myself rushing to warm up one and get through my trips so I could warm up the other in time, especially if we were close together in the posted order. Cam will step up next year most likely but he’s very happy in the 3’3” which allows me to produce a smoother ride (most of the time lol.) I believe the height you show at isn’t necessarily a reflection of you as a rider but rather a combination of what your horse is comfortable with and where you two can meet in the middle to create a successful partnership.

Tater is not super into the full week of rain that’s forecasted... we are probably going to scratch the show this week unless the weather does a complete 360° esp. because it’s all on grass. Super bummed because Fairfield is one of my favorite local summer shows! 😢 I thought it was supposed to be... ya know... summer?
